چکیده

While playing rugby a 22 year old man sustained a rotational injury during flexion, to his left knee. Before this event, to his knowledge, his knee had been normal; and there was no clinical evidence of arthritis. That evening he noticed his knee had become painful and swollen. Evaluating acutely injured patients for internal derangement of the knee.

Although historical findings have some value in diagnosing internal derangement of the knee, a thorough physical examination can often rule out fracture and ligamentous and meniscal injuries. The Ottawa Knee Rule can help physicians determine which patients require radiography. Positive physical examination tests and findings of acute effusion suggest internal derangement. An abnormal McMurray ...

MRI Evaluation of Acute Internal Derangement of Knee

Introduction: Internal derangement of the knee is a blanket term used to cover a group of disorders involving destruction of the normal functioning of the ligaments or cartilages. MRI provides excellent soft tissue contrast and is capable of evaluating the soft tissue and bony structures in multiple imaging planes which provide significant advantage in IDK. Methods and Materials: A prospective ...

Arthroscopy and HRUS Correlation in IDK

In a prospective study we invistigated internal derangement of knee (IDK) with High resolution ultrasound (HRUS). Aim was to determine effectiveness of ultrasound in diagnosing IDK and to compare with Arthroscopy. Ultrasound showed good sensitivity (91.3%) and specificity (90.6% ) and the figures were comparable toarthroscopic findings. We conclude that ultrasound is a simple, accurate, inexpen...

Clinical, MRI and arthroscopic correlation in internal derangement of knee.

BACKGROUND The traumatic or degenerative internal derangement of the knee requires certain investigations for the establishment of diagnosis, in addition to clinical history and a thorough physical examination. The use of arthrography and arthroscopy improves the accuracy of the diagnosis. MRI scanning of the knee joint has often been regarded as the noninvasive alternative to diagnostic arthro...
